Richard M. Eskelsen
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and hero, Richard Morrison Eskelsen, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at his home in Perry, Utah.

He was born on February 21, 1929 in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Ruel M. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Morrison Eskelsen. He grew up in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1947 where he was the Senior Class President. He later graduated from the University of Utah.

Dick served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge as a Captain in 1964. During his service he was posted at Fort Belvoir, VA, in Korea during the Korean Conflict and with the Utah National Guard for more than 10 years.

He married his sweetheart, Virginia Elizabeth Bird on November 5, 1954 in Brigham City and they were married for 54 years, raising four children together. Virginia preceded him in death on July 3, 2009, and Dick subsequently met and married his loving partner Patricia Ann Huggins Grover on August 10, 2010 where he was quickly adopted by an incredibly loving family, as their husband, father and hero.

Dick retired in 1988 from Thiokol after 30 years of service where he was a Tooling Engineering Manager. He purchased his Perry fruit farm, “Eskelsen Orchards”, in 1983 where he raised peaches, nectarines, apricots and his grandchildren; teaching them to drive his tractor and work hard.

He enjoyed hunting, investing in the stock market, traveling and reading, but his greatest passion was being with family where he was a jokester, an ear to listen and a quick wit in any conversation.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children Kim (Steven) Johnson, Redlands, CA; Catherine Anderson, Ogden, UT; Todd (Ann) Eskelsen, Kensington, MD; and Dan (Jann) Eskelsen, North Richland Hills, TX; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Quinn Eskelsen; brothers-in-law Richard Cannon and Robert (Lorraine) Bird.

He was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Vic Anderson; four sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Perry 10th Ward Chapel, 685 West 2250 So.

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m.

Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Box Elder Veterans Honor Guard.
