A viewing will be held on Friday, October 19, 6 PM-8 PM at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 624 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah 84302. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 20 at 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 139 East 300 North, Brigham City, Utah. Interment will follow at the Brigham City Cemetery.

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and friend Garold (Gary) Arthur Salmon, 76, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on August 28, 1942 in Altadena, CA., son of William Robert Salmon and Eva Mae (Brake) Salmon. He was a high school athlete, lettered as a freshman in Varsity Track and Varsity Football. Gary graduated from Monrovia High School in 1960. He came to Utah State University on a scholarship to play football that fall. While at USU he met the love of his life Nettie A. Vigh. Nettie’s love of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints inspired Gary to study the Gospel Principles and ultimately become a member. They married on March 15, 1963 in Hyrum, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple. Nettie and Gary were an example of 55 years of love and commitment. Their life together was a true love story.
Gary was a great dad, grandfather and friend. His warmth and acceptance made you feel loved. He was a man of integrity and he showed all of us how to be a good person.
He was a beloved teacher at Box Elder High School for 31 years. He taught Math and Architectural Drafting. He loved running into to his former students and always remembered their names. His summer job as an Architectural Draftsman provided an opportunity for him to draw homes for several generations of families in our community. He made friends everywhere he went.
He was a skilled artist in various mediums from painting, pottery, metal art and found his true passion in carving sculptures.
Gary was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many capacities. He was an inspiring Scout Leader and helped many young men in the community achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
He fought a 31-year battle against heart disease with determination and grit. He was tough as nails! He knew life was a precious gift and was grateful for every day.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Nettie, Carma (Rob) Pain, Corey Salmon, Colby (Taryn) Salmon, Callan (Janna) Salmon, Cade (Paola) Salmon. 10 Grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, a sister Judy, and nieces Gina and Tina. He was proceeded in death by his parents William and Eva.
A viewing will be held on 10/19/18 6-8 PM at Gillies Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be held 10/20/18 11–Noon at the 12th Ward Building, Brigham City, Ut. Interment will follow at the Brigham City Cemetery.
