Donald M. Saunders
Brigham City – Donald Michael Saunders was born on December 14, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Simon and Martha Clara Michael Saunders (who died from complications related to his birth). He left this mortal probation on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
Donald was raised by his half-sister Electa Saunders Wadsworth and her husband, Chet, in Shelley, Idaho and their family became his family.
He learned the value of thrift and hard work. He learned how to be a great mechanic, something he enjoyed up until the end, especially working on his 1924 Ford Model T.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. While serving in Sasebo, Japan, he received a letter from a beautiful young lady who became the love of his life. Donald participated in the Utah Honor Flight in 2016.
Anna Yvonne Stucki and Donald were married for all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 3, 1947.
They spent their life together dancing, singing, fishing, camping, gardening and traveling. Many summers were spent in Island Park, Idaho their home away from home.
Donald was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held various callings and spent much of his time in the service of others.
His greatest joy was his family, his sweetheart, Yvonne; children: Dennis (Sandy); Charlene (Don) Zwonitzer; Gale (LeeAnn); Renae (Tom) Doxey; Evan (Elizabeth); Marilyn (Orson) Thompson; David (Mandy); Maureen (Robbie) Horne; Tamara (Terry) Palmer; 43 grandchildren; 87 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, and one great grandson, Bryan Milton Doxey.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped throughout his life, VA Hospital Staff, South Davis Home Health, numerous extended family members, friends and amazing ward members.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City North Stake Center, 320 East 600 North.
